About Tommy T Douglas

Tommy T Douglas Health Avocate and Researcher

Our Mission

At Aging Health, my mission is to bridge the gap between complex medical research and the everyday needs of seniors and caregivers. I believe that health information should be accessible, accurate, and, above all, useful for those making important decisions for themselves or their loved ones.

My Health Journey & Expertise

I am actively managing several chronic conditions, which gives me a unique perspective on the healthcare system:

  • Cardiovascular: Heart attack survivor (2008).

  • Metabolic: Managed Type 2 Diabetes & stabilized Blood Pressure.

  • Autoimmune: Managing Psoriasis with biologics (Humira).

  • Internal Health: Navigating Anemia, GERD, and Liver Cirrhosis.

  • Sleep Health: Living with Sleep Apnea, Restless Leg Syndrome, and Insomnia.

From Precision Engineering to Health Advocacy

My path to health advocacy wasn't traditional, but it was built on a foundation of two core values: people and precision.

  • Service & Support: With a background in restaurant management, I spent years learning how to listen to people from all walks of life. I understand the importance of clear communication and the value of a supportive community.

  • Attention to Detail: Later, I spent nearly a decade in computer-assisted machinist operations. In that world, a measurement off by a fraction of a millimeter could ruin a project. I have brought that same "machinist's eye" for detail to my health research-ensuring that the information I share is grounded in facts and verified by reputable sources.

My Commitment to Accuracy (E-E-A-T)

I am not a doctor or a medical professional. I am a retired professional and an active researcher who believes in the power of "Connecting the Dots."

To ensure the highest level of trust:

  1. Fact-Based: Every article is cited with sources from high-authority organizations like the CDC, NIH, and Mayo Clinic.

  2. Transparency: I provide a "Sources" list for every health claim made on this site.

  3. Accountability: If I make a mistake, I provide a clear "Report an Issue" button on every post to ensure the record is set straight immediately.

My Health Journey

  • Survived a heart attack in 2008 and continue to monitor cardiovascular health.
  • Living with anemia and complications from liver cirrhosis, including bleeding varices.
  • Managing type 2 diabetes, which is mostly under control, alongside previously high blood pressure that is now stabilized.
  • Treating psoriasis effectively with Humira (adalimumab).
  • Coping with sleep apnea, severe restless leg syndrome, and lifelong insomnia.
  • Addressing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is largely controlled

Why I Write a Blog

As an amateur health and medical researcher, I combine personal experience with evidence-based learning. My goal is to provide accessible health information, wellness resources, and real-world insights for others navigating similar conditions. This blog is designed to:

  • Share personal experiences with chronic illness management.
  • Offer research-backed resources for patients and caregivers.
  • Build a community of wellness and support for seniors and individuals facing complex health challenges.

Mission Statement

Through my writing, I aim to empower readers with knowledge about heart health, liver disease, diabetes management, autoimmune conditions, and sleep disorders. By documenting my journey and research, I hope to inspire others to take proactive steps toward better health outcomes, longevity, and quality of life.
